The Second Amendment

I know I've been posting on here a lot, but I have so many topics that I want to hear people's opinions on.

Most people are familiar with the second amendment, which gives us the right to keep and bear (fire)arms. With two school shootings in the last week, I feel that this is a relevant topic.
I live in Oregon, and recently the University of Oregon repealed the ban on weapons, thus allowing students to carry guns on campus legally. The whole town has been in an uproar, with people either loving or hating the new rule.

I would like to know how people here feel about guns in public, be it concealed or open carry, and whether you do in fact carry in public.

My thoughts and feelings on the subject:
A firearm is a tool. It will not hurt you by itself. If it is sitting on a table, it will not shoot by itself. It is neutral. Everything is dependent on the user's intentions.
I would like to point out that nobody with a proper license has committed a crime with a handgun. The reason that schools are repeatedly targeted by gunmen is precisely because there will be no opposition. You never read about somebody shooting a police station or military base. Why? Because they know that they will be stopped as soon as somebody notices a gun.

If the courts interpreted the second amendment the same way they interpret the first amendment, we would all be able to own nukes by now.
