A Kirtland youth baseball league is broke after a mother of a player is accused of stealing almost $15,000, according to board members.
The woman was a volunteer and ex-board member for the Lower Valley Amateur Baseball Congress.
But when board members realized what was happening, they reported her to the sheriff's office.
"We had seen a big drop in our funds and through a statement we had seen a lot of money missing,? said Ty Vaughan, Vice President of the Lower Valley Amateur Baseball Congress.?
"This kinda comes as a shock that not knowing what the people that we trusted let this happen," said one coach, Amanda Lee.
But board members and parents didn't want to let the children on the team down. So now, they're trying to figure out how to pay for things like uniforms, insurance and field maintenance.
A few businesses in town have already stepped up to the plate. The league is hoping a fundraiser will help make up the rest.
"Like a field day, a field training day for all the kids And we're just going to use that as a fundraiser and see what we can do to help the kids out," said Vaughan.?
"We want the kids to have fun and we're just all out here for the kids," said Lee.
The field day fundraiser is set for May 4 at Ruth N. Bond Elementary School in Kirtland from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
There is a warrant out for woman's arrest.
