Perpetual Altas bag NCAA men?s, women?s volleyball crowns

University of Perpetual Help System DALTA wrested the men?s and women?s volleyball titles in the NCAA via sweep after disposing their opponents Monday in the championship series at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

The Lady Altas made short work of Letran, 25-15, 26-24, 25-10, to wrest their first-ever women?s volleyball crown in the league.

The Altas, meanwhile, defeated the San Beda Red Lions, 25-14, 25-15, 25-23, to claim their third consecutive men?s volleyball crown.

Following a five-set thriller in Game 1, the Lady Altas made sure that there will be no close encounter this time against the Lady Knights.

Honey Tubino and Sandra Delos Santos and each had 14 points with Tubino contributing 13 on attacks and Delos Santos churning in three aces as the twin towers of the Lady Altas proved to be no match for the Lady Knights.

Marinelle Carolino contributed nine markers but it wasn?t enough for the Lady Knights, who failed to take Game 1 despite a one-set lead in the fourth set.

Marcelo Joaquin paced the Altas with 12 points while Adam Daquer and Jay Dela Cruz each had 11 markers in the title-clinching game against the Red Lions.

Lorenzo Capate finished with 12 markers for the Red Lions but the top-seed Altas were just a dominant team.

In juniors action, San Sebastian College forced a Game 3 with a pulsating 22-25, 25-20, 25-22, 18-25, 18-16 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College.
